Publishing and Editing

  • andererseits: Yearbook of Transatlantic German Studies
From 2014-2015 I served as the Managing Editor for the fourth edition of andererseits: Yearbook of Transatlantic German Studies. This project is a collaboration between Duke University, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Université du Luxembourg and now the University of Notre Dame and seeks to provide a forum for unique and exciting research and reflections on topics related to the German-speaking world and the field of German Studies. andererseits seeks to publish work that reflects the entire intellectual life of a German Studies program including academic work from undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, as well as creative writing and art.

As Managing Editor I was responsible for overseeing a team of section editors and organizing a group of executive editors in three different countries. I solicited submissions and was the point of contact for all stages of the editing and publication process (reviewing submissions, arranging contracts, collecting page proofs, formatting essays for online publication etc.). I also oversaw the writing of a new mission statement for the journal and put in place new systems for enhancing the quality of the open-access publication format.
  • Duke German Newsletter
I served as an editor for the Duke German departmental newsletter for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016. I was responsible for gathering content for the issues as well as formatting them for publication using Adobe InDesign. You can check out my work on the Duke German website.
  • RWIT (Research, Writing, Information and Technology) Tutor
As an undergraduate student I had the pleasure of serving as an RWIT tutor with the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric at Dartmouth College. In this position I developed a passion for helping students to improve their writing and their critical thinking skills. For my work as a writing tutor I received the Class of 1962 Award for Excellence in Peer Tutoring.
