Representing Activism/ Activist Bodies

In June 2018 I gave a talk at the University of Bamberg entitled: "Is #metoo sexy? or: What does it Mean for Women to Act Politically?" For a summary of the talk check out this blog post.

That talk inspired me to write the article "
“Women Ruining Men: Representations of #metoo, #aufschrei, and the Red Army Faction,” which I am currently revising for Feminist German Studies.

In this article I contextualize the contemporary #metoo movement by looking at it together with the #aufschrei (outcry) campaign and multimedia representations of the Red Army Faction in Germany. Examining the #metoo movement within this context illuminates some of the strengths (adaptability, virality) and pitfalls (internet-reliance, lack of legal implications) of 21st century digital activist campaigns.

Together with my dissertation chapter "Antigone's Son: Personal Struggle and Historical Grieving in Die bleierne Zeit" this work will form the foundation for my second book project.

Right now I am calling the project Politicized Bodies, Dangerous Bodies and it will look at how bodies are represented in different politically-charged contexts.
